Smiths Detection today announced the acquisition ofLiveWave Inc, a U.S. company that has developed software systems whichnetwork large numbers of sensors and video cameras with connections toremote viewing and recording stations. The addition of LiveWave'stechnologies enhances Smiths Detection's ability to fulfil a growingrequirement for integrated packages of detection sensors and controlsystems, managed as a total security solution.

In addition, LiveWave specializes in digitally enabling CCTVsystems for enterprise-wide network distribution, which is considereda core technology for an increasing number of security applications,notably in the mass transit and event security markets. Building onSmiths Detection's and LiveWave's complementary product ranges,considerable growth is expected for Smiths Detection in these markets."This acquisition further enhances the Smiths Detection offering tothe security market. LiveWave has deployed numerous physical security solutions forearly warning, detection and response, public safety, port andrefinery security and operational safety with the following U.S.government organizations: Department of Defense (DoD), Department ofEnergy (DOE), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and several majortransit systems including the Massachusetts Bay TransportationAuthority (MBTA) and the Washington Metropolitan Area TransitAuthority (WMATA).

For WMATA, it is the incumbent digital video security vendor for'PROTECT', a system combining video and chemical agent sensors thatprovides early warning systems, facility management and incidentprotocols on the DC Metro Subway System.
