Asia Optical, Largan Precision and Kinko Optical, the top three producers of optical lenses in Taiwan, have well-established production bases in China, currently with 15,000, 3,500 and 4,500 employees, respectively, according to the three companies.

Asia Optical has four wholly-owned subsidiaries and seven joint ventures in China, with the former making glass/plastic lenses and lens units while marketing digital still cameras and projectors, and the latter seven engaging in production and sales of optical devices and instruments. Two of the four wholly-owned subsidiaries are located in Shenzhen with the other two in Shanghai and Dongguan of southern China.

Largan set up a wholly-owned subsidiary, Largan Optronic, in Dongguan in 1994 and another, Suzhou Largan, in Suzhou in 2003. The company plans to increase the personnel at Largan Optronic from 3,100 at present to 3,500 by the end of this year.
