More than 225 friends and family members were present at the official opening and dedication ceremony of Peter's Garden at Onaway School in Shaker Heights Oct. 1.
The garden was conceived by Dr. Hadley and Patti Morgenstern-Clarren and their daughter Rachel as a memorial to Peter, their son and brother who died at age 22 in 2004.
Patti described the many ways in which Peter's spirit resides in the garden. Hadley acknowledged the many people and the Shaker Schools Foundation who helped make the garden possible.
The garden is "gorgeous," marveled Jennifer Steinbach and Jocelyn Berger; both graduated from Shaker Heights High School with Peter. Steinbach is a special-education teacher at Onaway, and Berger works for the Jewish Federation in San Francisco.
"The Morgenstern-Clarrens are an incredibly sensitive, aware and compassionate family to all … (transforming) their sorrow, grief and loss into something beautiful, living and regenerative," noted longtime family friend Laurie Polster. "Like pebbles rippling in the water, Peter's essence will go out to all the people who did not have the opportunity to know him personally."
