The accident happened just before midnight Friday on County Road R22 about 6 miles southwest of Granger, according to the Dallas County sheriff's office.
The Iowa State Patrol said a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe sport utility vehicle driven by Brennan Negrete, 16, was northbound when it ran onto the right shoulder. Negrete oversteered and lost control, and the vehicle rolled and came to rest in a soybean field, an accident report said.
Authorities said Saturday that relatives were still being notified, and they declined to identify the victim or release the names of others involved in the crash. All six people in the vehicle were taken to Des Moines-area hospitals.
Michael Douglas Roe, 27, was killed Friday when he lost control of his vehicle on a Van Buren County road 1 mile west of Stockport. Patrol officials did not disclose Roe's hometown. Investigators said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed into a pasture. No other details were made public.
At least one person died early Saturday in a crash 1 mile south of New Albin on Iowa Highway 26. The patrol said the crash involved a pickup truck driven by Richard Kelleher, 43, whose hometown was not disclosed by the patrol. Troopers said the vehicle went into a ditch and rolled. No other details were made public.
Jason Lambert, 27, was arrested in July. A third-degree sexual abuse charge will be dismissed as part of a plea agreement in which prosecutors will recommend probation for Lambert rather than prison time when he is sentenced Nov. 14.
Court records show Lambert admitted that he kissed and touched the student but thought it was consensual. He resigned from his job at the school.
A Polk County judge took that step after a hallway photo-taking incident, but Judge David Remley said there have been no problems with in-court photos or text messaging, just an occasional ringing phone.
Visitors might not have a safe place to temporarily store their cell phones, Remley said, and he would rather not have courthouse security responsible for collecting them.
Firefighters and police responded to the blaze just before 4 a.m. When they arrived, they found the front of the house engulfed. Opperman and her children were found in a second-floor bathroom.
Kenneth Richard Evans' home was searched on Oct. 12. Investigators seized three computers, three digital cameras, photographs and other items, U.S. Attorney Matthew Whitaker said.
"They pulled both locomotives away from the passenger cars and, as I understand it, they separated the lead locomotive from the burning one. The burning locomotive was completely isolated," Black said.
